Most people know that radiation can cause cancer. That’s why we get many questions and voiced concerns from about-to-have-a-child women who need X-rays for dental services. We completely appreciate the concern, and we’d like to resolve it.
First, please understand that radiation from X-rays is very low and bears little risk. Secondly, know that every time we do an X-ray at Provo Pediatric Dentistry, we cover the patient with a leaded apron to diminish the amount of exposure. These aprons cover the abdomen and will keep your child safe. The dangers that stem from untreated dental illnesses are much greater risks than X-rays, which are very normal to receive. We will do all we can to maintain you and your child’s health, so we may use an X-ray to diagnose certain diseases in the oral cavity.
And as always, our team will consult with you about your unique situation and determine what the right course is for you. If you’re still troubled about X-rays, please give us a call so we can work to find the best solution for you.
