If a baby tooth is knocked out, you should visit us so that we can examine and make sure that everything will continue to grow properly. Due to the nature of teeth development, baby teeth are not replanted in the mouth as it could damage the development of permanent teeth.
If a permanent tooth is knocked out, you should place the tooth back into the socket as soon as possible and hold it in place there with gauze. If this isn’t possible, the best method for preserving the tooth is to place it in milk. Come to the office immediately as the most important factor when trying to re-implant a tooth is time.
If your tooth is cracked or chipped, contact our office and we will help walk you through the steps you should take for your situation, and come in to the office as soon as possible if necessary. Keep any large pieces of tooth that chip off as they may be able to be bonded back on.
If there is a possibility that you may have a broken jaw or more significant head injury, you should forego coming to our office and head directly to the emergency room for treatment. If you have a broken jaw, you should wrap it closed with a scarf or cloth.
